Playdate/Party

Caleb had a couple of his buddies over for a playdate/belated 2nd birthday party today. It was a lot of fun for the boys and for us mommies since we hadn't seen each other in awhile. The boys seemed to enjoy each other's company until one tried to take a toy from another. They have certainly gotten to the "mine" stage and aren't too interested in sharing at this age. Ethan and Bryce almost had a knock-down-drag-out fight over a balloon, Bryce wanted it and Ethan wasn't going to let go without a fight (we had to put the balloon in another room after that). Caleb got some more Curious George stuff, a couple of DVD's, some outfits, and a stuffed Curious George. Caleb loves Curious George! It is so fun to get our boys together, even though they don't really play "with" each other yet, although Bryce and Caleb did enjoy a short game of peek-a-boo under the tablecloth. Our boys are just getting sooo big, especially Ethan at 36 inches and 31 pounds!!! I think Caleb is going to be the short/stocky one, he's got the body of a line-backer! One thing our boys have in common...they sure are cute and such a blessing to their families.

Caleb is 2 years old today!!

Caleb is 2 years old! I can't believe it. It seems like just yesterday that he was cozy inside my belly. These past 2 years have just gone by so fast. I have so enjoyed watching him grow and develop. He amazes me on a daily basis with all the things he is able to do, he is so bright and picks up on things immediately. In some ways he is so independent (wanting to feed himself and figure things out on his own) and in other ways he is still so dependent (wanting mommy when he bumps his head). It was fun to celebrate Caleb's birthday today after the week we have had. He just brings us such joy, it is hard to be sad when he is around. We gave him a play doctor's kit and a couple of books, one of which is a Curious George book (he LOVES Curious George). He also had a pretty good helping of chocolate cake after dinner, it appears that he enjoyed it!

Bad News

Well our family received some bad news today. I went in for a routine OB visit and an ultrasound showed that I have had what is called a "missed miscarriage". Basically that means that the baby died, probably a couple of weeks ago, but for whatever reason my body hasn't realized that yet and hasn't expelled the baby. So, I have to have a D&C this Saturday morning to remove the baby. This was certainly a tough blow to us. We are understandably upset and probably a little in shock. I'm one to believe that everything happens for a reason, even if we don't understand or even like the reason. I've had the song "Praise you in this storm" by Casting Crowns in my head all day long so I thought I would post the lyrics.

"Praise You In This Storm"

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
