First Day of School!

Well today was the big day...Caleb's very first day of school. I'll tell you that the morning did not start off well. I want you to picture the worst mood a 3 year old could possibly wake up in, now what ever kind of grumpiness you are picturing...Caleb was grumpier! Fortunately it only lasted a few minutes and then he was fine. Glenn and I took him to school this morning and walked him to his class. He was hesitant to go inside the classroom but he went in with a little push from mom. If you know Caleb you know that he is VERY sensitive to loud noises, especially loud noises that come from other kids. And with it being the first day of school, kids were upset which of course made Caleb upset. I got a picture of his new locker and one of him coloring at the table. Then it was time for Glenn and I to leave. I actually did pretty well...until I got home. I cried when I walked into the quiet house. It was either cry or throw up and I opted to just cry...less messy. I did get 5 things done off my to-do list though! We picked him up 3 hours later and the teacher said that he did have a tough time the first half of the morning, mostly due to another boy who was screaming for his dad. But Caleb was in one piece when we picked him up so he did survive his first day. Hopefully he wasn't so traumatized that he freaks out when it is time to go to school tomorrow. It will just be an adjustment for him, and it will take some time to get used to the new routine. His teachers are really great and you can tell that they really have a heart for these kiddos. So, I will keep you posted on how the rest of the week goes.

Yummy Watermelon

After washing both cars this morning in the hot sun (well Glenn and I washed while Caleb supervised) we treated ourselves to a big piece of watermelon. I put a towel in Caleb's lap to prevent him from making a mess but I didn't think about the fact that the watermelon would just drip all over his shirt! Monday is the big day for Caleb, his very first day of school, so be looking for pictures early next week.

Such a trooper

Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday morning. Caleb had an MRI and shunt series at the hospital and these pictures were taken before he was sedated. He was such a big boy the entire time, he did so good with all the different people messing with him. We had to wake him up at 5:30 and he couldn't have anything to eat or drink! Caleb likes his breakfast about 25 seconds after he wakes up in the morning so asking him to go several hours with no food or drink is a tall order. But he did great! He was a little grumpy coming out of the anesthesia but after the nurse gave him some apple juice and a Popsicle he was fine! The tests showed that everything looks good, actually looks better than the scan he had last year.

Caleb's 3!!!

Well our baby is 3 years old! He had his party yesterday and he had a blast. It was a "Bob the Builder" party which is Caleb's very favorite thing right now. We had construction hard hats there that the kids could decorate with their names. The party was in a big gym which was perfect for Caleb, he was able to go all over the place in his wheelchair. As you can see he went a little crazy with the cake. The more people laughed at the mess he was making, the bigger mess he made! Oh well, I guess he is allowed to get messy on his birthday. We were blessed to have our friends and family there to help us celebrate Caleb's birthday. We just can't believe how fast the past 3 years have gone by. Caleb will actually be starting school this year, he will be in a preschool class for kids with special needs. It will give him a chance to get used to being in a classroom as well as allow him to learn how to get around a school using his walker and his chair. We are nervous about him going to school at only 3 years old but it's only for 3 hours a day. We think it will be a really good opportunity for him. Also, things appear to be going well with this pregnancy. I am almost 13 weeks now and I had a sonogram last week and the baby looked good, moving around like crazy. I have another sonogram at 17 weeks. So thanks to everyone who has prayed for us.

Watch out, he's radioactive!

Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday. We had to take Caleb to the Children's hospital for a special kidney scan to make sure his kidneys are healthy, the doctor is concerned because of the number of UTI's that Caleb has had in the last year. They had to inject a special radioactive medicine through an IV and then we had to wait almost 2 hours for the medicine to work its way to the kidneys and then they took pictures of the kidneys. I took these pictures in the cafeteria, we figured we would eat while we waited for the medicine to get through his body. The nurse gave Caleb a small remote controlled car for doing so well while they put the IV in. Caleb was such a trooper, of course he didn't enjoy the IV but he did great during the scan, they had a "Bob the Builder" movie playing just for him (he loves "Bob the Builder" right now). We don't know the results of the scan just yet, hopefully we'll hear something next week.
