Caleb walking and telling a joke

Here is a video of Caleb walking in his AFO's this afternoon. He is doing so great. Would you believe that during my pregnancy with Caleb we were told that because he had Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus he would basically be a mentally handicapped vegetable that might not survive? That could not be farther from the truth. Look at how well he is doing, he has exceeded my expectations time and time again. If I had just a glimpse of what Caleb was going to be like maybe I wouldn't have been so scared during my pregnancy with him. I've heard that anywhere from 70-90% of babies with Spina Bifida are terminated, maybe if people knew how wonderful these kiddos are there wouldn't be so many. Caleb is such a blessing and inspiration to me. He brings me so much joy. Just in case you can't understand him, here is the knock-knock joke:

Who's There?
Banana who?
Banana, why did you have to get all brown and mushy?!

Maybe a future comedian? Who knows. At least he makes me laugh.

Benjamin and "big boy" toys

Benjamin likes to play with some of the "big boy" toys. I thought he looked so cute sitting and playing with the "Little People" barn. Of course he just puts all the animals in his mouth and gets them soaking wet with his crazy amount of drool. The kid is a faucet!

End of Summer Bash 2009

Today was the annual End of Summer Bash. It is sponsored by Rise Adventures which is an organization that has a variety of outdoor activities for people with physical disabilities. Caleb got to do several fun things today: face painting, riding in a kayak with daddy, a petting zoo with baby pigs, donkeys, goats, chickens, and bunnies, and he got to feed a pony. Oh, and he got to shoot a bee bee gun! He had a lot of fun today. I'm so glad there are organizations that sponsor these kinds of events. It allows Caleb to do things that he wouldn't normally get to do. It is such a blessing.

Big Boy Benjamin

Since it was cool this morning I had to scramble to find some warmer clothes for Benjamin (I guess I need to go shopping for him soon). This outfit was one that Caleb wore as a baby. I thought Benjamin looked like such a big boy dressed in his jeans and long sleeve shirt. His well-child check was earlier this week. He weighs 16 pounds, 10 ounces and is about 26 inches long. He is still very small for his age (around the 3rd percentile), but I guess he still has some catching up to do since he was a preemie. He only got 1 shot (flu shot) and a finger prick. He did not care for the finger prick at all, I think that made him more mad than the shot! His iron is low so we have to work on getting that up but other than that he is doing great.

Father and Son

Yesterday was "Dad's and Donuts" day at Caleb's school. Glenn took Caleb to school early so that he could eat some donuts with him. Here is a picture of them before they left, I thought they both looked very handsome.

Caleb had Benjamin laughing hard tonight. Here is a video of the fun. There are also several other videos on our YouTube channel.

9 months old

Benjamin turned 9 months old today. Here is a video of him getting on his hands and knees! I imagine that he will be crawling in no time at all (not sure how I feel about that). It seems like he is hitting all these major milestones all of a sudden, I can't believe he is going to be a year old in just 3 months! He's just growing so fast. He's doing great with solids. I've pureed carrots and green beans for him and he liked them both! I'm not sure what I'll try next. He has a well-child check tomorrow so I'll find out how much he weighs then. I think he is probably around 16-17 pounds...but we'll see. He sure is a cutie!

Caleb and the minnow

Here is a cute video of Caleb trying to hold a minnow...a minnow that wanted to get away!

At MeMe's

We are spending the weekend with MeMe. Grandpa Joel and Aunt Morgan are here too. Caleb is having a great time, he always has fun when we come down here to visit. Here are a few pictures that I have taken so far, I have some cute video to post too so I'll try to get those posted in the next couple of days.
This was taken when Benjamin woke up this morning. I just thought he looked so cute sitting on his activity mat. I like how the buttons are open on his pj's and his little tummy is peaking though.

Caleb and Aunt Morgan watching "Charlotte's Web"

Caleb got to do a little fishing this afternoon. He wasn't too interested in catching fish, he just liked holding the pole and playing with the minnows (I've got some cute video of Caleb holding a minnow...video coming soon)

My favorite picture so far. We decided to bathe the boys together tonight. Benjamin had a blast in the big bathtub and Caleb seemed to enjoy having his baby brother in the tub with him.

Physical Therapy with Ms. Vickie

Here are a couple of pictures of Caleb during his physical therapy today. Ms Vickie is really working on getting Caleb to stand and play without leaning on anything. He has definitely gotten stronger and is able to stand straight up for short periods of time. He is also cruising up and down the couch with almost no help. I can't believe how far he has come, especially in the last few months. I love seeing him standing up like this, he looks so tall! He just works so hard. He is doing great at school too. He walked with his walker to the kindergarten class today. The class was performing "The 3 Little Pigs" and they let Caleb join them. He played the pig with the house of sticks. He was so proud of that! When he got home from school he wanted to keep acting out the story. He pretended to be the Big Bad Wolf and kept saying "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down." He's so funny. After lunch he said "Mom, I have a hypothesis" (he's 4) and I said "Ok, what's your hypothesis?" His answer: "In my tummy!" I don't know what that means, but it sure made me laugh!

Caleb thought it was fun to wear my earrings on his glasses. He got a kick out of that!

Caleb riding Oreo

Caleb started the fall semester of therapeutic horseback riding a couple of weeks ago. Here is a short video of him riding Oreo earlier today.

For some reason Caleb likes to lay his head on Benjamin's belly. Benjamin doesn't seem to mind it and it makes for a cute picture. One of Benjamin's favorite things to do is to take Caleb's glasses off (that's why Caleb's glasses are off in these pics). I love having two boys. I hope and pray that they have a very close relationship as they grow up.

Benjamin scootin'

Benjamin is learning to scoot forward. Here is a quick video of him practicing this new skill. Also check our YouTube channel for more videos.

I got a new camcorder today so here is a quick video of Benjamin playing (and Caleb chatting in the background).

Two little toothies!

Here is a picture that shows Benjamin's 2 bottom teeth. They are a little hard to see in the picture but they are there. He is doing great. Sitting up well and eating solids better. I'm going to puree some carrots and see how he likes those (he loved the pureed pear).

Glenn took this picture last night after Benjamin's final feeding before bed. I cherish moments like these with him because I know they won't last forever. I can't believe how big he has gotten.

This is Benjamin when he was in the NICU, probably about 4 pounds when this picture was taken. It's hard to believe he used to be that little. Just precious.

Caleb and Ruby

We went over to Nick and Paula's house for dinner the other night. They have 2 daughters, Ruby and Lily. I've already decided that Caleb is going to marry Ruby and Benjamin is going to marry Lily. Ruby was already practicing for when her and Caleb are married, she told Caleb what to do and he did it! I love this first picture, they were playing hide-n-seek. All you can see is Caleb's feet sticking out from one side of the bed and Ruby looking under the bed at him. It was so fun to watch to them play together.
