Haircut

I usually just cut Caleb's hair myself.  It seemed silly to pay $15 every time he needs a trim.  But, the truth is that I don't really know what I am doing when I cut his hair.  I would love to just get out the clippers and give him a quick burr but he inherited my ginormous (gigantic + enormous = ginormous) forehead so bangs are a must for this kiddo.  So, today I decided to just take him in and have a professional give it a go.

That drape is so long on him that he looked like a floating head.  It was cracking me up.

He did really well.  They had TV's playing baseball and Caleb couldn't take his eyes off it.

The kid flat-out refused to look at the camera and smile so these pics were the best I could do.  I think it looks good.  It's quite a bit shorter than I'm used to but I like it.  I watched while she was cutting his hair and I'm certain I can do this on my own.  I don't like paying for things if I don't have to.  Of course, I'm not silly enough to cut my own hair, I have a professional do that!  I'm not that cheap....yet.  :)

Brothers & Caleb's new seat

Tonight Benjamin was playing in this chair and Caleb wanted to get up there too.  Benjamin was not happy about sharing his chair at first but he quickly began to have some fun with his big brother.

Benjamin pinning Caleb down.  Not sure how the little brother managed to wrestle the big brother down, but it sure was fun to watch.  It is so cute watching them play nicely together.  Most of the time Caleb is screaming at Benjamin because he took Caleb's toy or Benjamin is screaming at Caleb for the same thing.  I am constantly running interference with these two.

I mentioned a few posts ago that I ordered Caleb a fold down seat for his walker.  Well, it came today!  

It is really neat and Caleb seems to like it.  I'm anxious to see if it will help him feel more confident and comfortable when we take his walker to places. It better for as much as they charge for the silly thing.  For any of you that might be interested, I ordered it through Kaye Products, and it is called "Add-A-Seat".

Did you notice Caleb's new purple straps on his AFO's?  He had some adjustments made to his braces today and we asked for some new straps, we went with purple.  I thought it was a nice change to the white we have always had.

Walk-N-Roll & Burger's Lake

Today was the Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida!  We raised $575 for the Spina Bifida Association of North Texas!  Thank you to all of you that donated money and showed your support.  We appreciate all of you!  The SBANT raised over $25,000 today!  That is awesome.  Sounds like a successful fundraiser to me.

The Walk-N-Roll was only 1/2 mile so it didn't take long at all.  Caleb got a medal after he crossed the finish line.  There were so many families there, it was great to see familiar faces and meet some new families as well.

After the Walk-N-Roll it was time to have some real fun!  Caleb was so excited about getting to play in the sand.  I think I took about 100 pictures today.  Benjamin LOVED the sand as well, he had a ball just digging in the sand with his little shovel.

Benjamin did great today.  Poor thing was up at 6:30 and did not get him morning nap so I know he was tired but he was having too much fun to think about how sleepy he was.

Caleb has such a great time.  He would have gladly stayed all day long.

Last year Benjamin screamed the entire time, he was not a fan of the sand or the water.  Click here to see pics from last year. This year was much more enjoyable for little Benjamin, he LOVED it.

We had such a good time.  I love getting together with all these other families.  I love watching my boys have fun.  It was just a wonderful time.  Thank you again to all of you that donated.

Playdate with Ruby and Lily

We had the pleasure of having Ruby and Lily over for a playdate this morning.  They are 2 of the cutest girls on the planet!  We have been friends with their parents for several years, long before either of us had kiddos.  Caleb was so excited that Ruby was coming over, he talked about it all morning.

Benjamin was taking his morning nap during most of the playdate so he missed a lot of the fun.

At one point Ruby and Caleb took off into his room and played together for quite awhile.  I could hear them talking to each other from the other room.  It was so cute.

I still think an arranged marriage between our boys and their girls is a good idea.  The only problem is that their Daddy says that his girls can't get married until they are 40 years old... hmmm that could be an issue.

Well, on another note, we met Caleb's new urologist today.  It went well, I felt like he answered my questions.  We still don't have a plan of action yet.  He wants to talk to Caleb's previous urologist regarding some test results before he makes any decisions about what to do next.  Some doctors are eager to do surgery but this one doesn't seem to be.  There is a surgery that Caleb could have that would work but it is very permanent and once it is done it can't be reversed (that's a little scary).  And it is a pretty big surgery.  So, not sure that is a decision that we are ready to make at this point.  His biggest concern for Caleb is that his kidneys are healthy ,and I agree, that is more important than him being in underwear by kindergarten.  Sometimes I need to adjust my perspective and look at things a different way.  So, we just wait until he gets in touch with the other doctor and then we will move forward, hopefully in the right direction.  He did say that he thinks Caleb is ready to learn how to cath himself!  I knew that was always the goal but didn't think Caleb was old enough to learn.  That may be something we look into doing soon.  

Horseback riding

Caleb had therapeutic horseback riding this morning.  He only has a couple of weeks left before they close until September.  It's been fun this summer because one of his friends from school has been in his same riding class.

It's almost impossible to get good pictures inside the arena.  I always try to get Caleb to walk to where they wait to get on their horse.  It's a pretty good distance but I know he can do it.  Today he only walked halfway and then said his legs were tired.  This is a big reason I don't like to take his walker out in public because his legs get tired and he needs to sit down.  Well, I found a solution to this problem today!!  I called Kaye (the makers of his walker) and they now have an Add-a-Seat feature for this walker!  So I just ordered him a folding seat that will attach to his walker, that way he can just sit down when he gets tired!! I'm so excited about this seat.  It should be here early next week.  I think it will really help Caleb feel more comfortable knowing that he can sit down if he needs to.  Woo Hoo!  I can't wait!

As always, Benjamin likes to go exploring outside while Caleb is riding.  Can you believe this little booger is 19 months old today!

For some reason Benjamin will not walk by himself when we are out of the house, he wants to hold my hand.  I guess he's just a little unsure on his feet still.

Caleb is actually waving in this picture but it kinda looks like he is tell me to "stop".  Kinda like: "Mom, no more pictures, Please!"

We meet with Caleb's new urologist tomorrow and I am just hoping he will take some time with us.  I have so many concerns and questions.  I'm going to stand by the door so that the doctor can't spend just 2 minutes with us and then leave without giving me a good plan.  I need a plan!  Fingers crossed that this new doc will have some new idea or something we can try.  I'm at my wits end!  I'll keep you posted.
