Caleb is doing well. He hasn't complained of any pain and hasn't had to take any meds since yesterday. The neurosurgeon was pleased with how well he is doing and, assuming things stay good, Caleb should be home by the weekend. I don't think we are out of the woods yet, we still have to be very careful and cautious about fluid leaking out of the incision. Speaking of, his incision looks amazing. I took a picture because I know that some of you (if you are like me) want to see what it looks like.
He is laying on his side in this picture. The incision goes all the way across the back, almost horizontal but not quite. It is angled a bit. It looks really clean and neat. I was impressed when I saw it, I was expecting to see something gross.
He keeps getting hot flashes (even though it is FREEZING in here) so he doesn't want a shirt on. I get cold just looking at him but he says he is comfortable.
He has gotten a bit antsy and grumpy about having to stay on his side and not being able to sit up and move around. Thankfully the Child Life volunteer came by and saved the day.
Caleb has been playing video games (mostly NASCAR) for most of the day. It has kept him happy and occupied. The neurosurgeon wanted to keep him off his back for the most part today so we have been flipping him from side to side. He seems pretty comfortable, although he is tired of laying down and wants to sit up. Hopefully tomorrow. His right foot is twitching like crazy but his legs aren't jumping around as much as they were yesterday. He did have a headache this afternoon. It didn't last terribly long but it made me nervous nonetheless. I will definitely be on the look-out for headaches.

So that is the update for now. We are basically just passing time in the hospital, trying to keep him occupied and happy. I'll continue to update on Facebook and on the blog regularly because I know many of you are anxious to hear how Caleb is doing.

Such good news and yes his back does look amazing, almost like embroidery :). His original scar looks pretty good too! Cute pix, such a cute age with no front teeth. Prayers and well wishes to keep up his great recovery!!
I find the incisions both horrifying and fascinating, you know? King's always sort of freaked me out, but they are amazing when you think about it. Caleb's is very neat and tidy! Nicely done. Good to hear that he's occupied and happy. Such a trooper.
Wow,he is doing great! His incision looks wonderful. He is such a trooper, what an inspiration he is!
was this incision right over his original closure site? if so, I guess I didn't realize his was horizontal too. Owen's original closure was horizontal and his TC release was vertical. Caleb's stitches look fantastic!
Seems to be feeling pretty good too. I am amazed!
Hoping you get to go home very soon!
Hi Caleb! It's me Wesley! Are you feeling better yet? Have fun playing your video games. It was game day in computers today. In music, we reviewed songs from the beginning of the year like "elephants have wrinkles." we all miss you! Can't wait to see you.
So glad to hear he is recovering well, that is awesome!!
Praise God! :) I have prayed for easing of pain and a speedy recovery and God who is so mighty is apparently bending down and listening to us ALL! He has HIS plan for Caleb and nothing will stop that for sure!
So cool to see him smiling in pictures! I was shocked at the incision. NONE of mine have ever looked that good...of course at my age, they were probably using sharpened stones to open me up. LOL!
God Bless!

Hey Cassie! We have been out of town and internet was fickle so I've only been able to get bits and pieces on facebook until tonight. I am so thankful for how well things are going - what an amazing kid Caleb is. Just melts my heart to see him reading and playing games like he was hanging out at home. Our children have to deal with so much that comes with this journey and I'm always so inspired and impressed at the level courage and the positive attitudes they keep. Jet is still little - and we've been blessed not to have too many surgeries or scares thus far - but as he grows it brings me such a comfort and peace to know he will be following in the footsteps of young people like Caleb. And you - as a mommy - sharing and documenting and opening up to those of us who may one day very well be in your shoes - are such an encouragement and empowering figure to me as a mommy. So God bless you both. Prayers for a swift and successful recovery. And thank you soooo much for all you do to help us - your friends ( and I'm sure strangers as well!) in ways that you my never fully know. <3
I'm so glad to hear that things are going well!
