Recent Randomness

This post is about some of the recent happenings with the McLelland Family. A more committed blogger would separate the following into different posts, but I'm lazy so I'm just going to mix it all together.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we signed Benjamin up for soccer. We thought he would enjoy having his very own thing to do since he gets dragged to so many of Caleb's events. Benjamin was so excited about soccer. He was so proud of his new shin guards and soccer cleats. I just knew he was going to have a blast and I couldn't wait to watch him on the field. The kids get one hour of practice time before each game.

Benjamin was a wee bit timid on the field during practice and wouldn't go unless Dad went with him.

Seriously, he would not let Glenn leave him. Benjamin was very uneasy. You could just tell that he didn't feel very confident and he was very overwhelmed. Practice time was pretty bumpy for my little guy and his first game was only worse. He ran off the field crying several times during the game! He was a mess.

Then he would have a moment like this where he was engaged and actually looked like he was having fun. And then he would glance over at me, burst into tears, and come running toward me. This happened about a million times. Poor kid was really struggling. I felt so bad for him because he was so excited to play but I think he just got so overwhelmed. So after a very rough first week, we decided that just daddy would take him to soccer the following week. Sometimes having momma around causes more emotion and drama.

Soccer has been a Daddy and Benjamin activity the past 2 Saturdays and it has gone much better. There have been a few bumps here and there but Benjamin has not run off the field crying! Yay!

GOOOOAAAALLLL!
I think he might actually be having some fun.

With Benjamin and Daddy off playing soccer, I've had some one-on-one time with Caleb. He recently got the opportunity to try out a racing chair.

He loves it! Seriously, this kid gets to try out the coolest things.

We are still going to our local homeschool nature walks. The boys love it.

He's so handsome.

We saw a woodpecker getting his home ready.

The kids learned about this special kind of plant that actually sticks to things so all of the kids were walking around with pieces of this plant on their clothes.

This cracks me up. Mr. Sam (the naturalist) calls this tree "the kissing tree" and he had all the kids gather close around the tree so they could listen to the tree (while he was making kissing sounds). Turns out Caleb is pretty gullible. :) He was listening so closely.

My little tree hugger.
He told me this week that he wants to be a naturalist when he grows up.
