Caleb's photo shoot

Caleb and his buddy Bryce were picked for a photo shoot at our local children's hospital. They are going to use the photos on their website and in print. I'm excited that Caleb got to be a part of it. The pics came out super cute so I had to share.

Recent Randomness

This post is about some of the recent happenings with the McLelland Family. A more committed blogger would separate the following into different posts, but I'm lazy so I'm just going to mix it all together.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we signed Benjamin up for soccer. We thought he would enjoy having his very own thing to do since he gets dragged to so many of Caleb's events. Benjamin was so excited about soccer. He was so proud of his new shin guards and soccer cleats. I just knew he was going to have a blast and I couldn't wait to watch him on the field. The kids get one hour of practice time before each game.

Benjamin was a wee bit timid on the field during practice and wouldn't go unless Dad went with him.

Seriously, he would not let Glenn leave him. Benjamin was very uneasy. You could just tell that he didn't feel very confident and he was very overwhelmed. Practice time was pretty bumpy for my little guy and his first game was only worse. He ran off the field crying several times during the game! He was a mess.

Then he would have a moment like this where he was engaged and actually looked like he was having fun. And then he would glance over at me, burst into tears, and come running toward me. This happened about a million times. Poor kid was really struggling. I felt so bad for him because he was so excited to play but I think he just got so overwhelmed. So after a very rough first week, we decided that just daddy would take him to soccer the following week. Sometimes having momma around causes more emotion and drama.

Soccer has been a Daddy and Benjamin activity the past 2 Saturdays and it has gone much better. There have been a few bumps here and there but Benjamin has not run off the field crying! Yay!

GOOOOAAAALLLL!
I think he might actually be having some fun.

With Benjamin and Daddy off playing soccer, I've had some one-on-one time with Caleb. He recently got the opportunity to try out a racing chair.

He loves it! Seriously, this kid gets to try out the coolest things.

We are still going to our local homeschool nature walks. The boys love it.

He's so handsome.

We saw a woodpecker getting his home ready.

The kids learned about this special kind of plant that actually sticks to things so all of the kids were walking around with pieces of this plant on their clothes.

This cracks me up. Mr. Sam (the naturalist) calls this tree "the kissing tree" and he had all the kids gather close around the tree so they could listen to the tree (while he was making kissing sounds). Turns out Caleb is pretty gullible. :) He was listening so closely.

My little tree hugger.
He told me this week that he wants to be a naturalist when he grows up.

Benjamin starts soccer!

We decided to sign Benjamin up for soccer through a local church. He gets dragged around to a lot of Caleb's stuff and we wanted him to have his own thing. We wanted something relaxed and low-key since this is his first time playing on a team. He had his first practice on Saturday. He was excited and a bit overwhelmed.

He looks terribly cute.

After practice, Benjamin set up some cones (paper cups) in the backyard to practice. It was so cute.

Kicking the ball through the cones.

He has his first "game" this weekend so you can expect more soccer pics soon. I'm hoping he enjoys himself. He's never really played a sport before so I'm not sure how well it will go (plus he's so young). I figure soccer is a good choice since he basically just has to know how to run and kick, right?

Crafting with our SB buddies

Our local SB chapter hosted a "crafting playdate" at a local pottery place. The kids were able to create their own mosaic tile. It was a lot of fun to see some familiar faces.

Caleb and his long-time buddies, Nathan and Bryce.

Starting their mosaic creations.

Caleb, Bryce, Nathan, and Ethan have known each other since they were about 1 1/2 years old. Here is a pic of these 4 boys way back when:

Seriously I can't stand it. Man, time flies. I love the recent photo of the boys all huddled around the Ipad! Too funny. I'm so thankful Caleb has these boys in his life.

Caleb got very creative with his tile. He created a campfire with a blue sky and a bright sun. I was pretty impressed.

The pottery place sent us home with a small bag of grout so that we could finish up our tile at home the following day.

Spreading on the grout. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to use a kitchen spatula.

Caleb's finished masterpiece!
