Botanical Gardens

I took the boys (or I tried to take the boys) to the museum yesterday. Bad idea. I should know better than to go to a museum at the end of a school year. There must have been 45 different schools there. Kids everywhere. Everywhere. We could barely move around the place. Benjamin was clutching on to me for dear life and Caleb was so overstimulated that he was zipping around all over the place. It was a crazy mess. We left. I had already packed us a lunch to eat at the museum so I decided to head over to the Botanical Gardens instead.

Why does Caleb keep giving me these toothy grins?

Benjamin's toothy grin. :)

Most of my pictures of Caleb are of the side of his face (like this)....

...or the back of his head (like this). This nature boy was in heaven at the gardens. He loves all things nature, especially birds. He was tickled to see several cardinals and a blue jay.

Back of head again.

Benjamin looks at the camera for me. I think he was getting pretty sick of posing for pictures though. I think my boys find all my photo taking a bit annoying.

I finally get the boy to look at the camera and this is the face I get. Forced smile, ya think?

Did you get enough of the back of his head yet? I love that he loves nature so much. He wants to be a naturalist one day.

I noticed while we were walking around the gardens that we were in the same spot we had our photos done back in 2010. For fun, I had Benjamin sit on the exact same bench. He's grown a bit. :)

Getting Curious at the Museum

I took the boys on a little field trip to the museum earlier this week. The museum currently has a Curious George exhibit that the boys have been begging to see. I'm not sure why they have wanted to go so bad, neither of them watch George like they used to. I think their new obsession with Star Wars has taken the place of the curious little monkey. Although when they were younger, Curious George was a big favorite with both boys.

Quick pose in front of the tree.

Working together.

George on the big screen.

The exhibit was pretty cute and the boys seemed to enjoy it.

Their favorite part of the museum, every time we go...
...the outdoor water area. They love it.

Trying to build a dam to stop the water.

Problem solving.

Iced In!

The weather in Texas can be a bit crazy. On Wednesday we had almost 80 degree temps and were sporting short sleeves while we enjoyed a picnic lunch outside.

On Thursday the day started off in the 30's (a 50 degree drop from the day before) and just continued to get colder and colder....then the sleet and freezing rain came.

Friday morning.
It looks like snow but nope, it's ice...all ice. A solid sheet of ice about 2 inches thick.

The boys were pretty excited about it so we took them outside to drive their Jeep on the slick ice.

Cute boys all bundled up and braving the freezing temps.

Hard to believe we were wearing t-shirts and picnicking just a couple of days before. Crazy Texas weather.

Benjamin had a blast outside. He was running and jumping. He loved it.

Little rosy cheeks and nose.

I think Caleb got a little cold or something.

Trying to break up a giant slab of ice.

So we are on day 3 of house arrest due to the icy roads. Things are starting to improve a bit today so hopefully we will be free to move about soon. While we have enjoyed being all cuddled up as a family for the past few days, it was a bit of a disappointment because we had to reschedule Benjamin's birthday party for next weekend. Oh well, what can you do?

TobyMac Baby!

Every summer a local radio station hosts "Celebrate Freedom" which is very large, all-day, outdoor concert. It's huge, like tens of thousands of people. Glenn and I have been a couple of times in the past but we haven't gone since having the boys. This year we learned that TobyMac would be one of the groups performing. We are huge TobyMac fans (especially Caleb) so we had to take advantage of seeing him perform in person.

Caleb was pretty excited once we got our tickets.

Celebrate Freedom is an outdoor concert, in Texas, in the summer. Meaning, it's HOT. Really hot.

Luckily there were some tents and shaded areas we could head to when the heat was too much. It really was quite warm.

The boys thought this car was pretty cool.

Fortunately the heat died down quite a bit by 6:00 and we were able to enjoy being outside.

Waiting patiently for TobyMac to take the stage.

We didn't have a great view of the stage but we did have a fantastic view of the 600 foot screen.

It was really a great concert. We are huge fans of TobyMac. It is just so refreshing to see such a talented artist that puts on a fantastic show while praising God. All of the artists that performed that day shared their faith. Love it.

About halfway through TobyMac's performance, Benjamin lost his mind.

Yep, that's my boy.
